Folks!!!! We are soo soo fortunate in the kickin' city of Richmond to be the honored recipient of the only East Coast stop on the WORLD CLASS Picasso tour. ONLY THREE CITIES IN THE USA!!! ONLY SEVEN CITIES WORLDWIDE!!! And WE ARE ONE!!!

Not Boston, not D.C., not Manhattan, not Chicago -- RICHMOND, VA BABY!!! It's right here in our very own backyard at the the $150,000,000 (yes that's ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY MILLION) dollar renovation to our now WORLD CLASS designated VMFA, the fabulous Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

This is a once in a lifetime chance for many Americans to even see such a comprehensive collection of Picasso. The only reason the show is even available for the international tour is because of the multi million dollar renovations being done to the Musee Paris where this collection -- and the largest collection -- of Picasso resides! What an opportunity!

Truly people, DO NOT miss this art show while you have the chance. It is here at the VMFA on the Boulevard until May 15. There is a parking deck! The VMFA, showing the most extensive showing of Picasso in United States history at the foot of Carytown -- could it get any better?

Givre is the word in the world of costume jewelry used to describe rhinestones that have been infused with a second color.

Most givre glass was made in Germany, although the word is french . . . for "frost" . . . go figure out that meandering etymology . . .

The colors of this former dragonfly brooch are awesome givres of opalescent and "creamsicle", vibrant orange fire opal, fuschia, and opaque pink.

She searches for tiny treasures with such care, and with such an eye for the detail and history of what she's seeking -- and we relate to that as Anthillians.

Recently Vivian brought in some of the antique medallions, tie tacs and lapel pins she's gotten from Anthill over the last few months, and I assimilated them into a special treasure necklace with matching asymmetrical earrings.

I couldn't have been more delighted with how they turned out and she looks so awesome wearing them.

Vivian, I know the meaning the pieces hold for you -- we feel the same about these often overlooked little records of history, which somehow respect the former lives and accomplishments of their owners.

It is beyond gratifying to be able to offer them a voice, a home, a presence, a custodian -- and in this case, all of the above.

This lovely mother and daughter will soon have double roles as grandmother and mother, respectively.

Alys bought her mom her first Kay. Mom bought Alys her 'next' Kay, and it was in honor of the baby on the way. The necklace has precious little components in pale pinks and ivories and is made on tiny little baby pearls.

Alys is a gifted musician and teacher who offers private piano lessons, (see her website link on my sidebar as well!), so I'm thinking her next next necklace just might have to include trebles and clefs and staffs!! . . .

The whole situation is melodic! :)

Ok, I'm like a month late, but I wasn't here on their real anniversary. So hopefully I won't get a demerit or detention.

A year ago, Mark and Melinda got married in full Scottish regalia, appropriate to the Wallace family heritage, as well as to Mark's alma mater, St. Andrews University in Scotland, where he got his doctorate (and, accordingly, when he officially became a nutty professor).

A cute little mermaid came swishing into Anthill the other day.

The little silver seahorses of a sea-worthy sea-creation instantly recognized her when she floated by.

"It's Nancy! It's Nancy!," they gleefully warbled. "Take us with you Nancy, we want to go home -- back to the beach and the sun, and the surf and the sand. Home to the seagulls and beach cottages and blue skies and sea-green oceans!"

Nancy saw how adorable and reminiscent of home they were.

"Hop on my neck, you crazy little sea-creatures," replied Nancy.

They wasted no time. And in a swishy flash, Nancy and her buddies were floating out the door, gleefully ready to enjoy a their life of surf, sand and sun once again! ☺

So we had this set of sample logo pins in a nifty little black velvet box for sale at the shop.

It was a salesman's sample set from a manufacturer that made custom lapel pins.

It was cool -- pristine condition.

But alas . . no one cared.

This was two of the lapel pins in the sampler set,

The Coy Cutie in the Skull

Meet my girl, Lauren.

She's the one who ultimately ended up with the infamous skull necklace, AND DOES SHE LOOK COOL IN IT!

Dang do I ever want to be in my early 20's again (certainly in looks!!).

To take you back a moment, one of the bullet points on my bucket list was to create something that would make the ranks to be included in Noah Scalin's widely followed and renowned 'Skull-A-Day' blog.

The items submitted have to be created by the artist and they get 1000's of entries, so I didn't know if I'd make the grade, but the "skulls-that-be" saw it fit for inclusion and thus I got to meet a goal on the bucket list!! YES!

I used two layers of earrings for his eyes, a Scandanavian earring for the nose, a Danish pin for his "grill" and in true 6-feet-under fashion, I have him crying a spider tear, as well as another spider fashionably crawling through his grill.

He hangs suspended from two . . what else . . . skeleton keys, and gobs of rhinestone and chain cobwebs.

"Kay, just thought I'd drop a note to say I took advantage of the sunny day to run over to your shop and pick up one of the necklaces with the white flower.

Theresa was very accommodating as I fogged up the display cases and whined like a puppy in front of your gorgeous necklaces whispering,

It's a terrible thing. She showed me her own red necklace that she has on lay-away and my eyes glazed over at the possibilities. I will be back.

Visiting your store and getting this pretty flower necklace was just what I needed! In fact, even though I am wearing a t-shirt and hoodie I threw on the necklace for fun and am wearing it now.

After a very wild ride in a land down under, I'm back in the saddle.

My husband and I spent the last three weeks in Fiji, Australia and New Zealand.

Hanging with the Aboriginal's came very natural for me. Anything that contains the root word 'original' is sweet harmony in my book!!

I felt so at home with the local Koori's, I begged my husband to let me tattoo my body in wild 'Picasso-meets-Koori' tribal art patterns one night after we had dinner with them (just on the back of my neck, I reasoned), but he thought it best for me to stick to the ant tattoo I'll be getting in July (more on that later).

Glad to be home and cannot wait to start DESIGNING SOME COLOSSAL NECKLACES!

Sherry is a trip . . . no, wait . . . Sherry is an ADVENTURE IN THIS WORLD, and I do believe she could be described as Lucille Ball -- with an edge and . . . LOTS O' BLING!

I don't know whether to be flattered or worried that my constituency will reform! LOL

The pure jewelry passion that clearly overtakes Sherry is completely obvious in statements such as. . . "Is it wrong that I just want to come into Anthill, get naked and roll around in all these jewels?"

No Sherry, IT IS NOT!!! And as a fellow DEVOTEE, I concur!!

I get it -- IT DOESN'T GET OLD! I'm as eat up with it as the day we started our GLITZ-ridden, SWAROVSKI-coated, BLING-overloaded, DIAMOND-dazzled, RHINESTONE-studded shop!
